Web Hosting Performance
First determine the amount of disk space and traffic you need.
Disk space size?
A small or medium site needs at least 10MB to 100MB of disk space.
If you consider only HTML pages, their average size is very small. Maybe even less than 1KB. But if you look at the size of the graphics used in the page, you will find that most of the pictures are much larger than the page itself.
Plus pictures and other elements of space, each page will take up 5KB to 50KB of server space.
If you plan to use a large number of images and graphic elements (not involving audio and video files), you may need more disk space.
Before you pick your provider, first identify the disk space you need.
Monthly flow
Small or medium websites need at least 1GB to 5GB of data per month.
You can do this by multiplying the average page size by the amount of page views you expect each month. Assuming your average page size is 30KB and the expected pageview is 50,000 pages, then you need 0.03MB x 50,000 = 1.5GB.
Larger commercial sites typically consume no less than 100GB of traffic per month.
Before signing a contract with the hosting provider, you need to figure out the following:
Connection speed
Visitors usually use a modem to access your website, but the hosting provider has a very high connection speed.
In the early days of the Internet, T1 connections were considered very fast connections. Today's connection speed is much faster.
1 byte equals 8 bits (this is the number of bits used to transmit one character) and low-speed modems can transmit approximately 14000 to 56000 bits per second (14 to 56 kilobits per second), that is, 2000 to 7000 per second Characters, or about 1 to 5 pages of text.
One kilobyte (Kb) is 1024 bits. One megabit is 1024 kilobits. One gigabit (Gb) is 1024 megabits.
This is the current connection speed used on the Internet:
name | connection | Speed per second |
Modem | Analog | 14.4-56Kb |
D0 | Digital (ISDN) | 64Kb |
T1 | Digital | 1.55Mb |
T3 | Digital | 43Mb |
OC-1 | Optical Carrier | 52Mb |
OC-2 | Optical Carrier | 156Mb |
OC-12 | Optical Carrier | 622Mb |
OC-24 | Optical Carrier | 1.244Gb |
OC-48 | Optical Carrier | 2.488Gb |
Before signing a contract, try other sites on the provider's server and it is good practice to talk to other clients.
